I agree with other reviewers that the volume control is tricky. But it does indeed work; you just have to understand how to control the volume, which is not at all intuitive. It seems to be some sort of touch feel, so no there is no feedback whether or not you are successfully changing the volume - well, of course, other than the sound getting louder or softer :-)

If you press too hard, which is tempting thing to do, then it doesn't seem to work. So try pressing gently.

If your computer has its own volume control, then you will likely find it preferable to just use its controls instead.

I regularly use these speakers both with a MacBook Pro and with a Samsung HDTV monitor (I move the speaker cord back and forth between the TV/monitor and the computer), so I primarily rely on the volume control of the MacBook and TV.

The sound quality on these speakers is good. My only complaint is the number of wires, but this will be the case on any set of computer speakers. It's just ridiculous how many wires there are, and Mac users will be more sensitive to this than PC users (PC users are used to a gazillion wires; Mac users like me are spoiled).

There are FOUR bulky cables coming out of the subwolfer: one to each speaker, one to the audio source, and one for the power. Again, this is not a ding against this model specifically, as they are all this way. This is a ding against the industry for not consolidating these ugly cables via some innovation (think HDMI).

If you can live with wires everywhere :-) then I recommend these speakers. If you don't want the wires, then get a device with good integrated speakers (like an iMac).

I got the JBL spyro speakers because they were in special offer, some 20% less that the JBL Spot. Same power, different design. I didn't mind that much about the design.

First impressions. When I opened the box, the settings were very easy to follow, being sure to plug the cables correctly. At the beginning I put the speakers (tweeters) just near my computer's screen and the subbufer behind it (the nearest wall was 80 cm away). I was impressed for the sound of the treble, like crystal, although I expected to have more bass power since I adjusted to the maximum level.

Some days after I did the mandatory duty cleaning and I put the system on the corner (20 cm from each wall) over a wooden table and turned it on to have some atmosphere. Then....WOW I couldn't believe my ears, the bass increased notably!!. I played all my favorite bass-songs and they were perform great. Seems that the sub-buffer needs a resonance space to make its job.

PROS
-For the price these are very powerful speakers, enough to fill up a room of 60 m2 (doing the corner trick). Actually they are too much for computer speakers, good enough for a small sound system. Exactly what I was looking for.
-Design. Even thought I got this speakers more for the performance than design I started to like them. Completely out of the traditional boxed-speakers school. They look like more a decoration gadget than a sound system. WELL DONE JBL.
-The space they occupy is very tiny. And also they are not heavy at all.
-Different inputs. Sometimes I connect my laptop, sometimes my Mp3 player, sometimes my mobile phone. It does not matter they do their job nicely.
-In other reviews some people complain about no middle-range sound. I do not find such a thing. I just equalize properly from my output source.


CONS
-The bass control nob is hard to reach, however Im a bass person, I had adjusted it once and I havent touched it ever since.
-A remote control wouldn't harm. Since the speakers are not anymore on my desk I have to approach them every time I want to change the volume. By the way, I prefer to adjust the volume with their control than from the output source (computer, mp3 player..etc). In my ears they work better that way.
-The volume level is kept from the last use. So if you do not remember what was the volume in the last music season then you might have a surprise, I try to decrease the volume before turn them off . I would like the system to start always in a low volume independently of the last settings.
-Even thought the volume controls are easy to use (you have to hold the speaker with both index and thump fingers) there is not way to know in which volume level the speakers are.

GENERAL

For the ratio price/benefit these speakers are worth it. If you have space issues I strongly recommend these. If you are looking for something with style I also recommend them. Im very happy with mine (I need to ask my neighbors if they share my opinion).
